President's Report/News and Reviews

The Schoharie Creek Players celebrated its 10th year as a Not-for-Profit with this past summer’s production of Uncle Vanya.  It has been the mission of SCP to produce classics of world theatre, as well as new plays for adults and young people; to provide on-going training in theatre arts for area residents through working with theatre professionals; and to establish a community spirit of networking. The production of Uncle Vanya was a testimony to that mission.  Aside from the local and professional talent, who have contributed to this play, the community played a very important role in insuring the success of this production. The Constance and Jarvis Doctorow Foundation provided us with a fine theatre space and the financial support to produce a masterful work of theatre.  The Catskill Mountain Foundation carved some time out of their busy summer schedule to allow us to present Uncle Vanya to the community.  Vladimir Pleshakov generously provided the music heard during the interludes. Natalie Sonevytsky from the Grazhda community taught us some Ukranian folk tunes that were played during the performance.  So many businesses gave us support by placing an ad in our program even during these difficult times.
SCP also produced an evening of Scenes from American plays called 4X4 Truckin’ Through Scenes from American Plays.  The intention was to provide an opportunity for some young actors to work alongside more seasoned actors and directors.  The evening proved to be a big success and something SCP will continue to do on an on-going basis.
